What’s special about Nursery?
Nursery marks the beginning of your child’s educational journey. It is a nurturing environment where children explore, play, and learn in creative ways.
Through guided activities and interaction, your child will begin to develop essential skills such as communication, social awareness, and self-confidence.
These early experiences lay the foundation for life-long learning and personal growth.
How We Learn
Your child will attend nursery for either a morning or afternoon session.
Our setting is play-based and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum focusing on the seven key areas of learning. Through engaging, hands on activities, both indoors and outdoors, children learn and grow in a supportive and stimulating environment.
As your child progresses we begin to introduce a simple and fun phonics programme to build early literacy skills. We also provide targeted support for speech and language development, as well as additional help for children who are learning English as an additional language (EAL) ensuring every child can thrive and feel confident.
Things to Look Forward to
- Stay and play sessions – this is a lovely opportunity for parents and carers to spend time in the nursery environment
- Autumn walks
- Christmas events and productions
- Visits in the local community
- Your child’s first sports day
- Blackpool Zoo - this is our annual Nursery trip that parents are invited along to
- ‘Let Your Light Shine’ Festival – this is our annual whole school end of year celebration of success and learning
Parent Testimonials
“As the end of the school year is fast approaching we just wanted to take this moment to thank you all for your hard work. We appreciate all that you do for our children and words will never be enough to express our gratitude for not just teaching them but being there for them when we are not and the positive influence each of you have had on them both. They speak so highly of you all and that speaks volumes. You are all fabulous at your job and were all made to teach.”
“I can’t put into words just how grateful I am to each and every one of you. You are the most kind, caring, genuine, thoughtful, down to earth ladies there are. Leaving your child can be so hard, but you treat them as your own, and there honestly isn’t anyone else I would rather him have been with. You have really made a difference and an imprint on his first year of school life.”
Miss Berry
I have worked in the nursery for 15 years and have been the Early Years foundation stage (EYFS) leader for 10 years, overseeing the nursery and reception classes. The majority of my teaching career has been in the EYFS at St Thomas’. I absolutely love it, every day is completely different and it is a pleasure to teach young children who are just starting off on their learning journey. The children make me smile every single day. Outside of school I have two wonderful children and enjoy playing football for my local ladies team.
Mrs Delamere
I am a HLTA with an NNEB qualification and I have been at St Thomas' for 28 years.
My passions are all things Early Years, creating Tuff Tray activities and music. What I enjoy most about my role is sharing joy, laughter, wonder and learning, together with the children and helping them grow. At home, I enjoy going on touring caravan holidays with my family, cooking and singing.
Mrs Armitage
With over 17 years of teaching experience, I feel incredibly lucky to work in a profession I’m truly passionate about. I’ve always had a special interest in the early years and love supporting young children as they begin their learning journey. Helping them grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence is both rewarding and inspiring. I’m committed to creating a nurturing and engaging environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to thrive. I’m married with three children of my own, which helps me to appreciate the joys and challenges of family life from both a parent’s and a teacher’s perspective. In my free time, I enjoy going for walks and spending quality time with my friends and family.
Miss Hoy
I have been a Teaching Assistant at St Thomas’ for the past four years and thoroughly enjoy being part of such a caring and supportive school community. Throughout my career, I have always worked with children, and I feel incredibly lucky to play a part in their early development. I love supporting young children as they grow in confidence and learn through play, and I find it so rewarding to help create a nurturing environment where they can thrive.
Before joining St Thomas’, I was a dance teacher – something I’m still passionate about today. I enjoy bringing movement, music, and creativity into the classroom whenever I can. Outside of school, my young daughter keeps me very busy! We love spending time together, especially going on walks and visiting the farm or the zoo.
