Our Curriculum

At St Thomas’ Church of England Primary School, our curriculum is at the heart of everything we do. It is carefully designed to nurture, inspire, and challenge every child, reflecting our core commitment to love, care and nurture. We believe that learning should be a joyful, engaging and transformative experience, where every child feels valued, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Guided by our vision “Our community united in love and learning, where all can shine” we strive to create a warm, inclusive and welcoming environment where every pupil, regardless of background or ability, can flourish. Our purpose is to bring out the best in everybody by guiding and inspiring them in God’s love, helping children grow academically, socially, morally and spiritually.

Our curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced, and inclusive, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop a wide range of knowledge, skills, and experiences. Alongside academic learning, we place great emphasis on character education, embedding our 12 core values - love, respect, humility, hope, forgiveness, friendship, happiness, wisdom, honesty, freedom, trust and courage - into every aspect of school life. These values shape how our pupils relate to one another, their learning, and the wider world, helping them to become thoughtful, compassionate and confident individuals.

From literacy and numeracy to the arts, sciences, and physical education, our curriculum encourages curiosity, creativity, and resilience. We celebrate diversity and foster an inclusive culture where differences are valued and every child feels a strong sense of belonging. Through rich learning experiences, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for reflection and growth, we guide our pupils to embody our school motto: “Let your light shine”.

At St Thomas’, learning is about more than academic achievement. It is about growing in love, faith, and character, living out our values, and preparing children to make a positive difference in the world. Our curriculum ensures that every child’s journey is supported, celebrated, and enriched, so that all can truly shine.
